Sebastian DeWay

Sebastian is a Montreal-based composer and electronic music artist who belongs to the generation of musicians using the laptop as a primary instrument. His compositions and live performances are shaped by both studio experimentation and on-stage improvisation, utilizing tools like Ableton Push and Novation Launch Control to create dynamic, evolving soundscapes.

His Ph.D. research focused on spatialization techniques to enhance electronic dance music, exploring how immersive sound design can transform the listener’s experience within a concert space. Sebastian’s works balance pre-compositional planning with in-the-moment decisions, resulting in performances that are both structured and responsive, drawing audiences into a fully immersive environment.

Recognized for his innovation in sound art, Sebastian is a winner of the CEC’s annual JTTP Project, an initiative that supports emerging Canadian electronic and experimental music artists. He continues to develop his practice at the intersection of composition, live performance, and immersive sonic exploration.
