MTL Electro: Montreal's Electronic Music Scene
Alexa Momtaz

Alexa Momtaz

Alexa Momtaz is a Montréal-born electronic and experimental music artist whose work spans electronic, classical fusion, new-age, and industrial soundscapes. Born in Montreal to an Egyptian father and a French mother, she developed an early connection to music through collaborative projects rooted in the city’s alternative scene.

Her musical journey began with Skull Fracture, a trio formed with her brother and a friend, performing on university radio stations and in Montreal’s alternative clubs throughout the 1990s. These early experiences helped shape a long-standing practice rooted in experimentation and sonic exploration.

Since 1998, Alexa Momtaz has worked as a solo artist, developing a distinctive sound that moves fluidly between electronic composition, classical influences, ambient textures, and industrial experimentation. Her work reflects a deep commitment to evolving forms of sound art and exploratory music within and beyond Montreal’s experimental landscape.
