Rehab Hazgui

Rehab Hazgui is a Montreal-based composer and sound ecologist whose work explores the intersections of sound, culture, and environment. Her artistic practice investigates how we learn new forms of language through conscious listening, and how beings interact with their cultural, societal, and natural landscapes as active participants.

Her research focuses on how sound emerges from dynamic environments — biological, geophysical, and human-made — emphasizing the act of listening as a gateway to perceiving space and engaging deeply with the world. In her music, Rehab Hazgui navigates repetition, movement, and silence, treating silence as a “third space” to explore multiple forms of listening.

Central to her practice is the synergy between human and machine, creating integrated, boundary-pushing performances that challenge traditional notions of music and technology. Her compositions guide listeners on immersive sonic journeys, playing with time, space, and perception, and offering experiences that are at once innovative and profound.

Rehab Hazgui’s work has been presented internationally at festivals and venues such as The Art Week (Singapore), Phonetics (Algiers and Paris), CTM (Berlin), Kikk (Namur, Belgium), Savvy Contemporary (Berlin), Perte de Signal (Montreal), Sight & Sound (Montreal), and The Mannheimer Sommer Festival (Mannheim, Germany). She has also led workshops across Europe on building DIY synthesizers and custom audio devices.
